Roger Meddows Taylor (born 26 July 1949) approached the world of music at a very young age, singing in the church choir and playing guitar in his first group when he was just eight. A little later Roger Taylor realized he was better suited to playing drums, so his father gave him his first drum kit and in a short time he started playing in some local bands and became the lead singer of The Reaction, a band that won a contest for local talent.
In 1968 Roger Taylor met guitarist Brian May and joined his group as a drummer. After two years the group broke up, Brian and Roger then set about looking for new musicians and found in Freddie Mercury the right singer to break into the world of rock, and founded the band Queen, which bassist John Deacon joined shortly after.
Roger Taylor has contributed to many of Queen's major hits, composing songs for each of their albums, often singing as a lead vocal in his compositions. During the 1980s he formed The Cross, a band in which he performed as lead singer and rhythm guitarist.
